Its purpose

A delivery order is associated with the carrier or its authorised agent and the process of releasing cargo to the consignee or representative. Iranian customs legislation distinguishes this carrier-related document from completion of customs formalities. It is not proof that all clearance procedures or charges have been settled.

Different documents, different roles

A bill of lading concerns receipt and carriage; a delivery order concerns the carrier’s release process. Customs release arises from customs procedures. These documents are not interchangeable. Confirm the exact document required with the carrier and clearance representative.

Check before requesting release

Check the transport reference, consignee, bill-of-lading release status, authorisation, cargo details and carrier charges. The procedure varies with document type and carrier practice. Confirm validity with the issuing party rather than relying on an image or verbal message.

Keep separate milestones

Record delivery-order request, receipt, customs completion and final delivery as separate milestones. Keep the owner, date and verified file for each step, so documentation delays can be distinguished from operational delays.

Obtaining delivery permission

Confirm transport references, authorised recipient, document-release method and required settlements with the carrier agent. Delivery permission does not itself complete customs clearance, warehouse settlement or physical collection.

Before you proceed

  • Confirm scope and references.
  • Use final cargo data.
  • Keep the approved version.
